All-Around Jacket

DESCRIPTION: The AAJ can be worn in almost any outdoor or social setting. Numerous people go straight from the field to professional meetings or even church in the AAJ. This robustly built garment will likely outlast it's maker. 

Please note the AAJ, does not come with a hood but our Double Hood, can be purchased separately for it which buttons onto the collar. 

FIT GUIDE:  Generous Fit~ Designed with additional room for layering and ease of movement. Designed for extreme conditions but can also be worn casually. Cody wore a medium Mid-Weight Al's Anorak under his medium AAJ when snowmobiling in Alaska for ultimate warmth and wind protection.

FABRIC: 100% WeatherWool Certified Fine Wool in our Jacquard Fabric

FEATURES:

• Made from our FullWeight Jacquard-weave Fabric.  About 18.4 ounces per square yard (624 gm)
• A Double Yoke (a 2nd layer of Fabric) covers the top of the chest and back, as well as the shoulders.  The Double Yoke extends about 35% of the length of the AAJ, and offers not only warmth and wind resistance, but also extreme protection against snow and sleet and rain.  The Yoke is shaped to help lead rain off the AAJ
• Heavy-duty YKK Double Zipper center-front closure.  The Double Zip can be opened at both top and bottom
• Double-layer Storm Flap, secured by Slot Buttons, over the front zipper.  The Storm Flap keeps the zip from fouling with ice or grit, and adds warmth if needed.  And if the zip somehow fails, the Storm Flap still provides complete front closure
• Drawstring inside, at the waist
• Double layer of wool on the back of the forearms for cushioning and extra resistance to abrasion and moisture
• Cargo pockets on each side of the front.  Pockets secured by zip and slots
• Handwarmer pockets under the cargo pockets, so the warmth of the body can reach the hands
• Four zippered pockets inside the jacket. 
• The size of all the pockets scales with the size of the AAJ, but even the XXSmall jacket cargo pockets are large enough to fit the biggest cell phones.  Inner pockets on the larger jackets will handle the largest cell phones
• A very substantial collar that provides significant additional protection when flipped up.  In the "up" position, the opposite sides of the collar can be buttoned together in front
• Under the back of the collar are Slot Buttons that can be used to secure the Double Hood
• Three Slot Buttons at each cuff cuff enable several adjustment sizes because the flap can be wound around the wrist in either direction
• The back of the AAJ is slightly longer than the front
• Near the bottom, the front and back panels not sewn together, so that sitting is more natural
• In size Large, the AAJ weighs about four pounds (1.8 kg)

PRODUCTION DETAILS: The Pre-Order period is closed, but there may be a few extras made available for exchanges in September. We expect to ship the current run of AAJs (and Double Hoods) in Drab Green and Lynx Pattern at the end of July.  

We do have some All-Around Jackets in inventory from the previous run. If the website accepts payment, the AAJ should be ready to ship now.

VERSATILITY: The AAJ can withstand unlimited snow, huge amounts of sleet and rain, significant wind ... and even a dunking in winter.   It is designed for cool and cold weather, and can be worn in temps as high as 70F/22C (over a light wool base layer or even no base layer at all) or as cold as you like, far below freezing, with the right base layer(s). Lots of pockets.

ANECDOTES: The All-Around Jacket appears regularly on History Channel's hit series MOUNTAIN MEN, lately worn by Bret Bohn, but also Josh Kirk and Kidd and Harry Youren. It's common practice for manufacturers to pay serious money for "product placement." Josh got in touch with us simply because he noticed other outdoor professionals in WeatherWool, and he wears the AAJ because he wants to.  Same with Bret, Kidd and Harry. The AAJ was also worn by Alex Javor (great review!) on the National Geographic TV Series Life Below Zero Next Generation. We have never paid anyone to wear WeatherWool.

If you purchase the AAJ, please also consider the Double Hood, which buttons onto the collar.  If you want an exact match of color between the Jacket and the Hood, it's best to acquire both from the same Fabric Batch to ensure same dye lot.  But some people prefer the Hood to contrast with the Jacket in order to break up the silhouette.  Regardless of thoughts on color, there is NOTHING LIKE a Hood when you need one!  Many people don't like Hoods.  But one outing in horrendous weather, with the Hood protecting the head, neck and face, will change perspective.

There are some well-known people in the photos.  The gent with the tripod-camera is Advisor Ron Spomer.  And with the cigar, Carl Murawski of YouTube fame.  Carl posted that photo with the caption "This jacket makes me look way cooler than I am."  That still makes me laugh.

Recently, BLACK has become the most popular color for the AAJ.  I think that means people have come to think of it as more of a dressy, city-type garment than a work or woods garment.   I am kind of happy about that because it suggests that our audience is growing.  But I do hope that all our wool gets out in some real weather, too.

CARE AND CLEANING: Wool’s anti-static properties help make it self-cleaning and odour-resistant, so it should not need frequent washing.   It may not even need rare washing. If your wool does not seem dirty, don't feel obligated to clean it ... even if you have not cleaned it for years.
