The 100% Wool Denim South Shore Chore Coat is based on the classic French Chore Coat. This hardy piece of outerwear has evolved over the past century from a practical uniform worn by blue-collar laborers to an everyday staple for men and women worldwide. This practical and easy-to-throw-on coat is made from 100% WeatherWool Denim, and it seems we are the only ones offering 100% Wool Denim!  Our Denim transcends the gap between formal and casual.  From work to play, formal to forest, WeatherWool Denim is more than capable.

Designed for the shoulder season but cut with a relaxed fit to comfortably accommodate a heavy wool shirt or sweater underneath to push it into cooler temperatures.

Although Denim and the Chore Coat are new for us, they conform to our original philosophy of Hardcore Luxury ... luxurious garments offering hardcore performance.  The Denim is soft and comfortable against bare skin, but handles weather and work.  And it's tough ... check out this orbital sander test!

The South Shore Chore Coat is offered in Charcoal, Indigo and Natural White (Undyed and Unbleached fiber).

Cody, in the hat, is 5'11" and 165 pounds (180 cm and 75 kg).  JR, in the headscarf, is 6'0" and 165 pounds (183 cm and 75 kg).  Both are wearing Medium.

The South Shore Chore Coat, named for the South Shore of New York's Long Island, where it was developed by Advisor JR Morrissey, is our first offering in our new, 100% Wool Denim Fabric.  JR, in his production shop, wears a Natural White Chore Coat in a photo at left.  Remarkable coincidence ... a guy from Sweden who already has Charcoal and Indigo Chore Coats, asked, via Instagram comment, for a photo of Nat White.  I happened to be online when he posted, so I replied immediately that I'd work on it.  Returning to my email, I was happy to see Anya, JR's assistant, had just sent the needed photo!  THANKS ANYA and JR!!!  Keep on truckin!!!!!!

Please click here for a video on the Chore Coat.  The video, about 10 minutes long, was made by, and features, Advisor Cody Bokshowan

There is plenty of background information on the Denim Page, but basically only half of the yarn in denim is typically dyed, and the denim weave creates a fabric with the contrasting face and back that has come to be strongly associated with denim.  Our Natural White Denim is completely undyed, so the face and back are very similar.

The latest information about our production is here.

      Our Fabric

Our 100% American, 100% Wool Fabrics, made from 100% WeatherWool Certified Fine Wool, are the foundation of our company. Making our own Fabric is time-consuming, difficult and expensive. But for us, there is no other way.

      Denim WeatherWool

Denim is a high abrasion—and tear-resistant weave, making it a staple in workwear. Instead of using cotton, we produce our Denim from 100% WeatherWool-certified Wool. You'll find our Denim to be much softer and cozier than traditional cotton denim.

      FAQ

      Where is it made?

All of our products are 100% made in the USA using 100% American-made wool and materials. We pay American citizens to make all of our garments. See more.

      Is WeatherWool in retail stores?

No, it is only available directly through this Website.

What are your garments designed for?

We set out to make the best All-Purpose outerwear possible and we take that "ALL" part seriously. While some items may be better then others for specific needs we like to think we have the perfect garment for anything you do outside regardless if it is in the serving in military, hunting, camping, city, country, work or worship.

      Why is it so expensive?

We never cut a single corner at any step. We make our own fabric, from the best wool in the USA. There are over 45 steps in making our fabric alone. We use the highest quality materials made in the USA. We have owner operated customer service on call to serve you and offer free shipping in USA and Canada as well as hassle free returns.

      Is WeatherWool Merino Wool?

Not exactly. Merino is great wool and has been very well marketed over the years but pure merino alone is not actually suitable for us.

We select our wool based on a number of characteristics including micron, strength, length, and comfort factor. With the help of our advisor Bob Padula we have determined the perfect recipe for our goals. Thanks to modern equipment we can test all the wool before we buy it and that wool is primarily coming from Rambouillet and Targhee breeds.

      How do you clean WeatherWool

Short answer, you almost never need to. It's self cleaning. We've had garments we've worn for 7 years that have never been cleaned other then some rain.

However, things happen. If a lukewarm bath and dry flat doesn't do the trick, you can try wool-cleaner. Our full cleaning page is here.

Can bugs bite through your fabric?

We have not heard of any that can.

What is your customer service policy?

Our customers will be taken care of.

Full Customer Service policy can be found here.

      About us

      Founders / Owners

WeatherWool was founded in 2009 by Ralph and Debby DiMeo. Together with their children and a few friends they maintain 100% ownership of the company. Their full story can be read here.

      Direct Connection To The Source

We make our own Fabric, starting with raw wool carefully and specifically selected from a small group of ranches in the USA that meet our certification standards. This isn't no stock photo. We're actually out there during shearing sampling wool and sharing stoies and good times with the ranchers and their families.

The Best We Can Figure Out

While most companies decide a price point, and reverse engineer a garment to meet that retail price, WeatherWool does the opposite. We make the best garment we can figure out how to make at every decision we face.Although our garments seem pricey to some our profit margins are below average and you're getting more value for your money and assurance that you're getting some of the best wool in the world.

Great new item from a fantastic company! The sizing is almost like it was tailored for me, I am a L/XL (5’10”, 220) who typically has to size up to XL with outdoor gear but everything I have from weather wool is a large and fits almost perfectly. The material is about as soft as wool can be and I haven’t been able to weather test it yet but I’ll take the word of all the videos I’ve seen on how durable this stuff is. Great, super simple but functional jacket and the icing on the cake is it was at my door about 30 hours after I placed the order! Top notch customer service with weather wool as well.

      Great fit, amazing customer service

Ralph and Weatherwool provided perhaps the best customer service experience I've ever had. I originally ordered a size too large and Ralph was extremely responsive and helpful in our communications. He gave suggestion and immediately shipped out my appropriate size. The construction of the jacket is top notch. The color is wonderful on the denim charcoal. I look forward to wearing it more as the weather cools.

The 4th WW product I have purchased. They never disappoint. Amazing personalized customer service and top tier product made in the USA. There’s a reason they are so often sold out.

      Not just for the guys!

I'm enjoying my blue chore coat during the cooler evening hours here in Wisconsin. Trying to shift away from synthetic fibers, both for sustainability reasons and also because I overheat easily (can't tolerate synthetic fleece anymore). So glad I came across this company. Quality is second to none. Great customer service (spoke with Ralph and his wife a couple times over the phone about how this jacket might fit a lady). Looking forward to getting more pieces in the future, and spreading the good word about WeatherWool.

(FYI, in case women are thinking about this piece, I'm typically a size 12-14 or so in tops, large in women's jackets. I took a medium in this. Sleeves are a tad long for me, but I just fold them back once. I also tend to leave the bottom button undone to give a bit extra ease in the hips)
