Reversible Seamless Watch Cap

$95
ColorDrab Green
Description

True Black and Natural White Watch Caps are shipping now at $95

We will offer Drab Green and Classic Brown in October-November.

Seamless Reversible Watch Cap. Our  Drab Watch Caps are double-layered and about 11.5  inches (28 cm) long uncuffed, allowing for generous ear coverage when turned up.   The new Natural Caps are our first venture into all natural yarn and 10.5 inches long.

WeatherWool Reversible Seamless Watch Caps are 100% pure, fine, worsted Merino ... and of course 100% American. The Watch Caps pair very well with the Neck Gaiters.  We will be making more Gaiters in 2024.

In 2019, we made several different Prototype Watch Caps, and Advisor Jesse Manuta did some heavy-duty testing -- with great results -- of the one we liked best, and that's the one we put into production.

Our Watch Caps are 100% worsted 20 micron long fiber American Merino -- no fillers or any other materials. And like all WeatherWool products, 100% American in manufacture.

The Watch Cap weighs 3.4 ounces / 98 grams.

The Watch Caps are quite "stretchy", but all the stretch and spring come from the knitting pattern.  We do not use any elastic or anything other than wool to make the Caps.  And no latex means that the stretch will not degrade over time.  They are also long, allowing for more coverage over the ears, or to be worn slouchy.  If the Cap is too large (or gets misshaped) , wash/rinse in warm water, lay flat to dry.   For the Natural colored watch caps, hand wash and dry flat only.

The Caps will fit almost anyone, although one person told us the Cap was too loose (too big). If that is the case, the Watch Caps can be put through a cold gentle wash cycle and dryer (gentle) and the knit will tighten up, making the Cap a little smaller.

Because of the nature of the reversible knit, we have decided, at least for now, that we will not sew a WeatherWool label into these Caps.  There is no good place to put a label; it will detract from the overall performance of the Cap, particularly in the rain.   For legal reasons, we may attach labels lightly, for easy removal.

Our Watch Caps are knitted by Tailored Industry of Brooklyn, New York. Their Whole Garment® Shima Seiki knitting machines create a seamless 3D knit that finishes off the crown cleanly. When everything is tuned right, these leading-edge knitting machines can virtually eliminate waste through their pull-based system, creating less than 1% excess material during the production of each Watch Cap. We have not reached this point yet, but we are working towards it!

Testing has shown that when rain wets the outer layer of the Cap, the inner layer remains dry.  Also, should the inner layer become damp with sweat, such as during a hard run (Jesse covers some serious distance) the Cap can then be reversed, placing the dry outer layer against the head while the wet layer can dry in the air.  And no seams makes for a more comfortable fit under a helmet.

Our great customer and friend TJ, a Veteran of the USMC, texted us about a surprising use for his Watch Cap. "As we were camping over the weekend and hiking come across a problem, unique to me and wearing kilts a lot , I forgot my phone case , forgot my sporran (which is traditionally worn with a kilt that's that bag in front !!!! ) ok so yes I have my pack but it's not very convenient to keep smaller things in, sooo I was standing there thinking about what I could use ! I looked down and there was my WeatherWool watch mans cap !!!! Bada boom 💥 use it as a bag !!! And it work great held my phone , lighter , chapstick ID ,worked great , stayed in place tucked under my belt , so you can also use the Neck Gaiter as a belt bag as well good as you forage for things , the cap works as a bowl too to forage ! Improvise Adapt Overcome"

The Watch Cap photos below show Natural White and Drab Green (in separate photos) and Classic Brown and Khaki Tan (together in one photo).  The model is wearing True Black, but we don't have any Black, Brown or Khaki Watch Caps in stock now.

    Our Fabric

Our 100% American, 100% Wool Fabrics, made from 100% WeatherWool Certified Fine Wool, are the foundation of our company. Making our own Fabric is time-consuming, difficult and expensive. But for us, there is no other way.

    FAQ

    Where is it made?

All of our products are 100% made in the USA using 100% American-made wool and materials. We pay American citizens to make all of our garments. See more.

    Is WeatherWool in retail stores?

No, it is only available directly through this Website.

What are your garments designed for?

We set out to make the best All-Purpose outerwear possible and we take that "ALL" part seriously. While some items may be better then others for specific needs we like to think we have the perfect garment for anything you do outside regardless if it is in the serving in military, hunting, camping, city, country, work or worship.

    Why is it so expensive?

We never cut a single corner at any step. We make our own fabric, from the best wool in the USA. There are over 45 steps in making our fabric alone. We use the highest quality materials made in the USA. We have owner operated customer service on call to serve you and offer free shipping in USA and Canada as well as hassle free returns.

    Is WeatherWool Merino Wool?

Not exactly. Merino is great wool and has been very well marketed over the years but pure merino alone is not actually suitable for us.

We select our wool based on a number of characteristics including micron, strength, length, and comfort factor. With the help of our advisor Bob Padula we have determined the perfect recipe for our goals. Thanks to modern equipment we can test all the wool before we buy it and that wool is primarily coming from Rambouillet and Targhee breeds.

    How do you clean WeatherWool

Short answer, you almost never need to. It's self cleaning. We've had garments we've worn for 7 years that have never been cleaned other then some rain.

However, things happen. If a lukewarm bath and dry flat doesn't do the trick, you can try wool-cleaner. Our full cleaning page is here.

Can bugs bite through your fabric?

We have not heard of any that can.

What is your customer service policy?

Our customers will be taken care of.

Full Customer Service policy can be found here.

    About us

    Founders / Owners

WeatherWool was founded in 2009 by Ralph and Debby DiMeo. Together with their children and a few friends they maintain 100% ownership of the company. Their full story can be read here.

    Direct Connection To The Source

We make our own Fabric, starting with raw wool carefully and specifically selected from a small group of ranches in the USA that meet our certification standards. This isn't no stock photo. We're actually out there during shearing sampling wool and sharing stoies and good times with the ranchers and their families.

The Best We Can Figure Out

While most companies decide a price point, and reverse engineer a garment to meet that retail price, WeatherWool does the opposite. We make the best garment we can figure out how to make at every decision we face.Although our garments seem pricey to some our profit margins are below average and you're getting more value for your money and assurance that you're getting some of the best wool in the world.

    My Top Pick: Weatherwool

Since getting my WeatherWool Watch Cap, I haven't left home without it. It's the best wool hat I've owned, offering exceptional warmth and comfort. With its superior quality, it's a daily essential for me in Duluth's chill. Impressed, I've even ordered one for my wife as a Valentine's gift. For anyone looking for a winter hat upgrade, this WeatherWool hat is a game-changer. Cozy, stylish, and indispensable!

Very warm. I am amazed that it lacks any elastic fibers. So far the lowest temp I took it to is about 10F while resting around the campsite. It keeps me very warm. I have to remove it during high activity, but I am usually hot and sweaty in 68F+ weather.

Don’t be afraid of the price.

I have owned many watch caps over the years. I don’t find the price of this hat to be out of line. This hat is over sized in length, super thick and well made of premium wool. I challenge you to find a better product cheaper. Really in this day and age we are talking about a tank of gas or a tank and a half depending on what you drive.
As far as fit. My hat size is 71/4 .The hat fit snug at first but after wearing it a few hours it broke into a perfect fit. It does not work its way up or drop down over my eyes when in use. I’m sure I will need to tighten it up through the washing and drying process at some point but after wearing it daily for a month there is no need to yet.
Warmth, this thing is very warm I have wore it down to about 15 degrees and feel it will go much lower. Mother Nature has been nice to us so far.
Water repellent, I have wore this hat in very heavy wet snow for 4 hours with no sign of it wetting out. Even in several hours in the rain, not super heavy it did not soak through. I’m sure I will get this thing wet enough to soak through but not yet. I will keep trying.
Reasons some people may not want to purchase
this hat. Hunters need to be where this hat does have a chemical smell when new. This does go away in time. Another reason is this hat is very warm. people living in mild climates might not get much use out of it.
My wish is a mid weight version of this hat for chilly mountain mornings and mild highs. I live in north Idaho for reference.
