Women's Blanket Coat

Description

Please Note: We are developing the Women's Blanket Coat and hope to ship it by end of 2023.  Actual pricing for this jacket will be determined as we finalize design and construction. We have made several prototypes of the Blanket Coat and all of them have sold.

The Ladies Blanket Coat is casual but elegant, a relaxed feel and a sort of automatic, comfortable fit.  We envision this for the gentler side of outdoor activities.  This piece is called a Blanket Coat because of the Blanket stitching along the cuffs, pockets, hood and center front.

If you are interested in the Blanket Coat, you are welcome to contact us personally or place a $0-dollar online order so we know to keep you in the loop as we work.

You can confirm your order or cancel before we cut any Fabric. The price for those who order prior to actual production is $650.  Regular price $850.

If you don't know WeatherWool and have not handled our Fabric, please contact us for free Fabric Sample Swatches so you'll understand what we are up to.

We will make the Women's Blanket Coat from our FullWeight Fabric. Shown in the pictures is a prototype in FullWeight Fabric in our Duff/Brown Color, with Merino-yarn trim. Like everything made by WeatherWool, the Ladies Blanket Coat will be a completely pure American product combining unmatched performance with classic looks that work anywhere.

The basic design:

  • Available in FullWeight Fabric in Lynx Pattern or any of our three Solid Colors (Black, Drab, Brown)
  • A Large Hood
  • Two Front Pouch Pockets
  • Mid-thigh length
  • Adjustable Doubled Cuffs
  • Edges stitched with American Merino Yarn
  • 4-hole Corozo buttons sewn with backer buttons
  • Zippered pockets on the inside hidden behind the outer pockets.

We really like the "Corozo Buttons" on this Coat.  Our Corozo Buttons are made in USA from a part of the Tagua Nut, which grows in South America.   The Tagua Palm is also known as the Ivory Palm, and the scientific name can be translated as “plant elephant”.  The Buttons are carved from the endosperm of the seed.  The endosperm is the tissue around the germ, which provides starch, protein and oil when the seed starts to grow.

Incidentally, we debated whether WeatherWool, given our strict policy of pure-American, could use Corozo, as the Tagua is from South America.    We decided it’s pretty much the same situation as with zippers and thread ... we know these items are made in the USA but we don't know where the raw materials come from.

These buttons are gorgeous and unique ... and super expensive, as buttons go.   Over $2 each last time we bought them!    But we feel they are very appropriate for the Blanket Coat which itself is intended to embody a mixture of casual functionality and elegant refinement.

These buttons seem very much like wood, but when you handle them, you can tell they are not wood.   I don't know of anything else like Corozo.

Please contact us / call anytime if you are interested!

The measurement one inch under the armpit is 39 inches for Small; Medium - 41 inches; Large - 43.5 inches; XL - 46.5 inches.   We may do any XXL at 50 inches.

The coat is 31.5 inches long from the center back in size Medium.  Sizes grade 1/2 inch per size in length.  The coat is cut in A-line pattern with chest darts.

Sleeve length is 25 inches from shoulder to sleeve hem with a 3 .5 exposed cuff.  Sleeve length grades to Small at 24 inches.  Large and XLarge go up .5 inches per size.

The Brown will have Natural Cream stitching, the Drab fabric will have Black stitching and the Black with have Cream stitching.  Lynx will have Cream stitching.  Still thinking about the color stitching for Natural White.

The REVIEW feature below, which enables anyone to publish a review, was added in March of 2022. It’s not appropriate for a developmental product, but customers have actually bought about six prototypes, so maybe someone will post. And the Review is a way to provide suggestions.
