Custom Items

WeatherWool offers several items that are bespoke ... that is, made-to-order. Among the custom items are Mouton Jackets, Mouton Vests and to some degree, Blankets.

It may be best to first contact us by phone us or at least email to discuss an order for a custom item. But the website does accept such orders, and you are welcome to place your order that way.

However, of course, custom items are not available to ship immediately, and will normally require at least a month to make.

People sometimes ask us about customizing our standard items. We can make custom changes to features or to sizing, but it sometimes is surprisingly (at least to me) difficult, and therefore expensive. On the other hand, tho, I've also been surprised because sometimes the tailors can do the work easily.

Here is an example of something I thought would be an easy change -- but wasn't. A customer is tall and slender, and wants a size 2X Anorak lengthened by 4 inches in the sleeves and in the body. The tailors explained that simply adding four inches would cause problems:

• Adding four inches to the waist would cause the side zips and waist draw to be in the wrong places ... so the pattern for the body needed to be modified
• Similarly, adding four inches to the end of the sleeves would cause the proportions of the arms to be incorrect. So the pattern for the arms also needed to be modified

Another customer wanted a second layer of wool added to the upper arms of his Anorak. The tailors accomplished that quite easily.

Before proceeding with a custom item we should probably charge require a deposit of 50%. But in practice we usually don't bypass the extra bookkeeping because by the time we nail down the particulars of the custom work, we know the customer is not going to walk away.
