Melissa Backwoods

Melissa Backwoods Miller has been wearing a Black Al's Anorak since early 2017. She is a WeatherWool Advisor and as of late 2019 she also has a Lynx Anorak.

Melissa gave us some feedback on her first (Black) Anorak: "One of my favorite aspects of Al's Anorak is its versatility. I can leave from instructing outdoors in freezing temperatures and head to grab a drink after work without changing. Living in Michigan, it is hard to find a garment that can be worn all four seasons, but with the unique zipper design, the Anorak allows for airflow at times you need it, and can be zipped up to adjust to colder temperatures. The virgin wool is so soft that I love to lounge around my house in it; it is unlike any other wool garment I have ever experienced. It isn't only functional and comfortable, but it's also stylish. I received many compliments on my Anorak and am proud to sport a brand that is 100% handmade here in the USA."

Melissa was a very popular contestant on the Discovery Channel's TV Series Naked and Afraid, where Melissa and her partner relied only on each other and their training, resourcefulness and determination to survive 21 straight days in the Amazon wilderness. We've been following this series for quite a while, so it is a kick for us to now know someone who survived an outing. We always wondered about one thing ... which Melissa confirmed when she told us one of the very most important aspects of preparation for these adventure-challenges is to toughen your feet ... if you don't, you will be quickly immobilized and practically helpless. But even if your feet are tough as shoe leather, it still takes extreme mental strength to endure the challenges of temperature, bugs, lack of water and food ... Melissa said it took MONTHS for her skin to heal from all the bug bites!
