Cliff’s life out in Nature and Weather began when he was 12 years old, in 1952, at a Scout Camp deep in the Michigan Woods … and is still going strong. From his website: “I have a deep, abiding love for wild places and wild things. I smile at bad weather and the unexpected--these obstacles encourage me to better appreciate the tiny footprint I leave upon the land.” Cliff is the author of 15 books, and continues to write. Canoeing Wild Rivers is the classic guide to expedition canoeing in North America, and has been continuously in print since its original publication in 1984. As the organizer and leader of many wilderness expeditions, Cliff’s knowledge comes from actual experience and real-world testing. A holder of degrees in Forestry and Secondary Education, Cliff has done a great deal of formal classroom instruction and has also worked as a Forester for the US Bureau of Land Management.
Jacobson is also a lifelong shooter, and has been a competitive shooter in the Military and as a civilian, competing at the national level.
Visit Cliff’s website for a lot more information about Cliff and his experience and books and lectures. Cliff is something of an old-fashioned gear-guy, and he has always believed in wool.
Interesting story about Cliff ... when I first started talking with Cliff, I asked Advisor Mike Dean, who has tremendous knowledge of outdoors topics, if he knew of Cliff. Mike said something like ... "Yes, I know exactly who he is. I've taken a couple of his classes, back about 20 years ago. Cliff is a primary author on canoeing and he is still active. He is extremely experienced in the wild, and he is real-deal, old-school. He believes in wool and he will love WeatherWool. In addition, Mike said he has one of the very first "Cliff Knives" made ... this is a knife designed by Cliff and made by Mike Mann, owner of Idaho Knife Works.
In the photo with his wife, both Cliff and Mrs Jacobson are wearing the WeatherWool Neck Gaiter, which Cliff reviewed in his own newsletter.
Cliff has had a lifelong love of the outdoors, despite having spent his first 13 years in Chicago. Cliff believes a love of the outdoors can be genetic ... "You probably have DRD4-7R or you wouldn’t be reading this right now!"
