Right now, the Big Brim Boonies are all sold out, but you can place a pre-order with us at $0 (no obligation to buy or you can switch color or size anytime).
We hope to make these again in 2022 but there is so much to do!! We love these Hats, tho!! And I just sent MY OWN -- the only one we had! -- to a friend who will be filming in it.
The man who made these Hats for us passed away, and we are just beginning to work with a new Hat Maker. These will probably be $150 but too early to really know.
If you would like a Big Brim Boonie, please place a no-obligation backorder at a price of 0 on this page. Please click for more information on Backorders and Inventory and Production Status.
The only difference between the Boonie Hat and Big Brim Boonie Hat is the width of the brim.
The Big Brim Boonie is a hugely popular hat design. The Boonie Hat and the Big Brim Boonie Hat are sometimes called Bucket or Jungle Hats. It is one of the designs most favored in the military, partly because the large brim helps to obscure the distinctive silhouette of the human head and shoulders.
The Big Brim Boonie is intended for all-around use, and can be rolled up and stuffed in a pack. The Boonie can shed a great deal of weather. Cold rain or snow is no problem. The Boonie will protect your head in windy temperatures well below freezing, but is still comfortable in relative warmth. Advisor Dale Rodefer wears his every day, year-round, in Maryland.
This is a full-sized hat, and like the Walker Hat, most people will be able to wear it fairly high on the head or pulled down to protect the tops of the ears.
Full 3-inch soft brim that will keep the weather off but flex as needed
Adjustable chin strap
Breaks up the silhouette of the head
Hydrophobic thread used is especially important on hat with a wide brim because there is so much stitching in the brim
We were showing WeatherWool in Boston when we first saw women wearing this Hat differently than men. They pulled the Big Brim Boonie down low on the head, over the ears and onto the forehead ... like a cross between a true Winter Hat and a Kentucky Derby Hat. It looks great that way and makes this a great winter hat for women, too.
