Description

Just a few ShirtJacs on hand now ... Drab Green, XXSmall and 3XLarge.

I hope we can make a few around January-March of 2025, but not sure we will have the Fabric.

The ShirtJac is offered only in our FullWeight Fabric. The somewhat similar CPO is a MidWeight item. Please visit FullWeight-MidWeight for a discussion of Fabric weights.

The studio photos show the most recent version of the ShirtJac.  Other photos may show slightly different ShirtJacs.  Based on our own experiences and input from the field, we make constant refinements to all our designs.

The ShirtJac, like all our products, is 100% USA and made with 100% WeatherWool Certified Fine Wool.

The ShirtJac, as the name implies, is part shirt, part jacket.  Our FullWeight Fabric really makes it more of a jacket than a shirt, though.  Highly weather-resistant and versatile.

The ShirtJac features button down chest pockets, adjustable button down cuffs, handwarmer pockets and a large inside drop pocket with zippered closure.

Model in photos is wearing a size medium.  He is 5'11" (178 cm) and 175 pounds (79 kg).

Our ShirtJac is made of our own FullWeight Jacquard Fabric ... soft and tough ... Hardcore Luxury®.

Slot Buttons

Slot Buttons are more secure than any other type of button we know. They have two slots through which an ultra-strong strip of nylon ribbon is threaded. The nylon ribbon is very securely sewn to the garment using Mil-Spec Anefil Nylon water-resistant thread. The Slot Button design results in an extremely well-anchored Button.

Our Fabric

Our 100% American, 100% Wool Fabrics, made from 100% WeatherWool Certified Fine Wool, are the foundation of our company. Making our own Fabric is time-consuming, difficult and expensive. But for us, there is no other way.

FullWeight WeatherWool Fabric

Our FullWeight Fabric was the first Fabric we developed, and it remains fundamental to what we do. Woven on a Jacquard loom, it is a three-dimensional weave that helps insulate far better than normal flat-weave wool fabrics. FullWeight is our warmest Fabric.  Our FullWeight Fabric is about 18.5 ounces per square yard (627 grams per square meter), about 50% heavier than our MidWeight Fabric.

FAQ

Where is it made?

All of our products are 100% made in the USA using 100% American-made wool and materials. We pay American citizens to make all of our garments. See more.

Is WeatherWool in retail stores?

No, it is only available directly through this Website.

What are your garments designed for?

We set out to make the best All-Purpose outerwear possible and we take that "ALL" part seriously. While some items may be better then others for specific needs we like to think we have the perfect garment for anything you do outside regardless if it is in the serving in military, hunting, camping, city, country, work or worship.

Why is it so expensive?

We never cut a single corner at any step. We make our own fabric, from the best wool in the USA. There are over 45 steps in making our fabric alone. We use the highest quality materials made in the USA. We have owner operated customer service on call to serve you and offer free shipping in USA and Canada as well as hassle free returns.

Is WeatherWool Merino Wool?

Not exactly. Merino is great wool and has been very well marketed over the years but pure merino alone is not actually suitable for us.

We select our wool based on a number of characteristics including micron, strength, length, and comfort factor. With the help of our advisor Bob Padula we have determined the perfect recipe for our goals. Thanks to modern equipment we can test all the wool before we buy it and that wool is primarily coming from Rambouillet and Targhee breeds.

How do you clean WeatherWool

Short answer, you almost never need to. It's self cleaning. We've had garments we've worn for 7 years that have never been cleaned other then some rain.

However, things happen. If a lukewarm bath and dry flat doesn't do the trick, you can try wool-cleaner. Our full cleaning page is here.

Can bugs bite through your fabric?

We have not heard of any that can.

What is your customer service policy?

Our customers will be taken care of.

Full Customer Service policy can be found here.

About us

Founders / Owners

WeatherWool was founded in 2009 by Ralph and Debby DiMeo. Together with their children and a few friends they maintain 100% ownership of the company. Their full story can be read here.

Direct Connection To The Source

We make our own Fabric, starting with raw wool carefully and specifically selected from a small group of ranches in the USA that meet our certification standards. This isn't no stock photo. We're actually out there during shearing sampling wool and sharing stoies and good times with the ranchers and their families.

The Best We Can Figure Out

While most companies decide a price point, and reverse engineer a garment to meet that retail price, WeatherWool does the opposite. We make the best garment we can figure out how to make at every decision we face.Although our garments seem pricey to some our profit margins are below average and you're getting more value for your money and assurance that you're getting some of the best wool in the world.

Look no further!

I've been looking for a jacket that keeps me warm at 0° C and doesn't make me sweat at 20° C for quite a while now. Knowing weatherwool for some time, I stumbeled upon the ShirtJac. Just when I got it, the weather in the Alps turned from 26° C to 0° C within a day and then back to 20° C the next day. ShirtJac handled both, not to mention that it's super comfy and easy on the eye! Thank You weatherwool! Took a size L, 6'1" at 190lbs athletic

Perfectly soft. I have worn it climbing to the top of 375 foot tall towers in 60mph wind at -5F and remain warm, and somehow I don't overheat in a 65F room.

Great for the outdoors and town!

Have been wearing this around town for a while and the compliments are always nice jacket (lynx)where did you get it? But this weekend I got to test it at 32 degrees and sporadic rain. It was amazing. My friends had to get their rain gear tops and I just shed water and stayed warm combined with the lynx standard vest under it and my wool base layer. Now I have to save for a Watch cap and shamagh. Then pants hopefully. Love the wool. Keep up the R&D for new products. I will be back to buy more!

Likely the best Jac-shirt / Wool Jacket in Existence

Initially, I first purchased a CPO in Lynx and was highly impressed. I followed up with the ShirtJac....

This is likely the one of the best utilitarian garments manufactured in 2023 period. I can now sell off large amounts of other gear with zero regret.

Lynx looks excellent, the material is sturdy and thick, and the collar... it's perfectly massive and stiff for endless days in the outdoors.

I need my gear to be multi-faceted and extremely deployable in different environments - from coastal Sweden to rural windswept New Mexico.

This piece actually functions rather well in the high-wind conditions of the open mesa where we have temperature differentials of over 30 to 40 degrees F in a day. I find heading out in the morning when its around 25 and windy an easy task with this shirt and then it wears comfortable as the day warms up - only shedding due to not really need a layer and not because I am overheated. I really hate wind and this layer works perfeclty in it.

I am a 40" chest - 6' 3" 180 with a weird lanky body type - this layer fits great in small. Medium would be ideal to layer with but for actually working I can fit a L/S shirt and wool work vest underneath this and I am perfectly layered. I love how long WeatherWool cuts their stuff.

I look forward to taking this piece and all my WeatherWool from the Nordic maritime to the wilderness to city.

Immediately my favorite jacket

Just arrived today and I am thoroughly enjoying it.
Haven’t had the opportunity to test it against any real weather (only 55 here this afternoon), luckily it’s still cool enough out to justify a jacket.
Looks, wears and feels great.
Already my favorite piece of cold weather gear.
