Description

NOTE:  We are temporarily shutting off online orders while we do year-end inventory, etc.  We’ll be back online soon.  But OK to call if something is up.  Ralph --- 973-943-3110

The Ladies' Blanket Coat is casual but elegant, a relaxed feel and a sort of automatic, comfortable fit for the gentler side of outdoor activities.  This piece is called a Blanket Coat because of the Blanket stitching along the cuffs and pockets.

The Blanket Coat is made from our FullWeight Fabric. Shown in the pictures is a Blanket Coat in our Brown Color, with Merino-yarn trim.  Like everything made by WeatherWool, the Blanket Coat is completely American, offering superior performance and classic looks that work anywhere.

The model is wearing size XSmall at 5'7" (170 cm) and 117 pounds (53 kg).

Our Corozo buttons are made in USA from a part of the Tagua Nut, which grows in South America.   The Tagua Palm is also known as the Ivory Palm, and the scientific name can be translated as “plant elephant”.  The Buttons are carved from the endosperm of the seed.  The endosperm is the tissue around the germ, which provides starch, protein and oil when the seed starts to grow.

Incidentally, we debated whether WeatherWool, given our strict policy of pure-American, could use Corozo, as the Tagua is from South America.    We decided it’s pretty much the same situation as with zippers and thread.  We know these items are made in the USA, but we don't know where the raw materials come from.

These buttons are gorgeous and unique, but we feel they are very appropriate for the Blanket Coat which itself is intended to embody a mixture of casual functionality and elegant refinement.  Corozo buttons seem very much like wood, but when you handle them, you can tell they are not wood.

The coat is cut in A-line pattern with chest darts.  Please click for sizing details.

Brown Blanket Coats have Natural Cream stitching; Drab and Black have Black stitching.

Our Fabric

Our 100% American, 100% Wool Fabrics, made from 100% WeatherWool Certified Fine Wool, are the foundation of our company. Making our own Fabric is time-consuming, difficult and expensive. But for us, there is no other way.

FullWeight WeatherWool

Our FullWeight Fabric is the foundation of WeatherWool. It was the first Fabric we developed and remains our flagship product. Produced on a Jacquard loom, it is a three-dimensional weave that helps insulate far better than normal flat-weave wool fabrics. Our FullWeight Fabric is our warmest Fabric.  Our FullWeight Fabric is about 18 ounces per square yard compared to our MidWeight fabric, which is about 12.5 ounces per square yard for comparison.

FAQ

Where is it made?

All of our products are 100% made in the USA using 100% American-made wool and materials. We pay American citizens to make all of our garments. See more.

Is WeatherWool in retail stores?

No, it is only available directly through this Website.

What are your garments designed for?

We set out to make the best All-Purpose outerwear possible and we take that "ALL" part seriously. While some items may be better then others for specific needs we like to think we have the perfect garment for anything you do outside regardless if it is in the serving in military, hunting, camping, city, country, work or worship.

Why is it so expensive?

We never cut a single corner at any step. We make our own fabric, from the best wool in the USA. There are over 45 steps in making our fabric alone. We use the highest quality materials made in the USA. We have owner operated customer service on call to serve you and offer free shipping in USA and Canada as well as hassle free returns.

Is WeatherWool Merino Wool?

Not exactly. Merino is great wool and has been very well marketed over the years but pure merino alone is not actually suitable for us.

We select our wool based on a number of characteristics including micron, strength, length, and comfort factor. With the help of our advisor Bob Padula we have determined the perfect recipe for our goals. Thanks to modern equipment we can test all the wool before we buy it and that wool is primarily coming from Rambouillet and Targhee breeds.

How do you clean WeatherWool

Short answer, you almost never need to. It's self cleaning. We've had garments we've worn for 7 years that have never been cleaned other then some rain.

However, things happen. If a lukewarm bath and dry flat doesn't do the trick, you can try wool-cleaner. Our full cleaning page is here.

Can bugs bite through your fabric?

We have not heard of any that can.

What is your customer service policy?

Our customers will be taken care of.

Full Customer Service policy can be found here.

About us

Founders / Owners

WeatherWool was founded in 2009 by Ralph and Debby DiMeo. Together with their children and a few friends they maintain 100% ownership of the company. Their full story can be read here.

Direct Connection To The Source

We make our own Fabric, starting with raw wool carefully and specifically selected from a small group of ranches in the USA that meet our certification standards. This isn't no stock photo. We're actually out there during shearing sampling wool and sharing stoies and good times with the ranchers and their families.

The Best We Can Figure Out

While most companies decide a price point, and reverse engineer a garment to meet that retail price, WeatherWool does the opposite. We make the best garment we can figure out how to make at every decision we face.Although our garments seem pricey to some our profit margins are below average and you're getting more value for your money and assurance that you're getting some of the best wool in the world.

Very Cozy

I've been waiting for this blanket coat for somewhere around 2 years and let me just say... It was worth the wait. I got it in time for a weekend trip to the snow and it was SO cozy. Our buddy was shivering in his poly jacket while my husband and I were not even aware of the cold in our weatherwool. I took a tumble off my sled into some muddy sludge and this coat cleaned right up in a little snow wash. Amazing.

The white stitching is beautiful and pairs perfectly with the weatherwool watch cap (which is one of the most comfortable watch caps I've ever worn; having spent most my life in the PNW I have worn a lot).

I can't recommend this blanket coat enough. My only regret is that I don't live some where cold enough to wear it more often.

The Only Coat You Will Need

I received this coat as an anniversary gift from my husband after he fell in love with the men's All Around jacket in the lynx pattern.

My first impression upon opening the box and touching the jacket is how soft this coat feels to the touch. I'm very picky and I can't stand anything scratchy. This jacket feels like cashmere and after only a week of wearing it, it's somehow even softer.

My second impression as I inspected the jacket closely was that every last detail is exquisite in quality. The buttons are large and seem indestructible. But they are so beautiful and unique! The stitching detail on the pockets and the sleeves is not flimsy and adds such an elegant touch. The pockets are warm and generous and a hidden interior pocket with weatherwool patch gives a wonderful extra spot and a little pride in owning such a quality artisan piece.

My favorite parts of this jacket, however, are the gloriously ample hood, the breathability, and that it is completely weather proof. Over the weekend I wore it on a several mile hike in the rain and near freezing temperatures and it kept me completely warm and dry-which is saying a lot because I'm always cold. But I have also worn it inside all afternoon and not become overheated. Quality wool is truly amazing in its ability to breathe!

The length is perfect and hits just above my knee/mid-thigh on my 5'5 frame, perfect for pairing with boots. Thank you Weatherwool for a truly luxurious gift.
