Description

Factory8 did a great job on these Chore Coats, and we're coming back online after the Holiday shutdown.

The 100% Wool Denim South Shore Chore Coat is based on the classic French Chore Coat. This hardy piece of outerwear has evolved over the past century from a practical uniform worn by blue-collar laborers to an everyday staple for men and women worldwide. This practical and easy-to-throw-on coat is made from 100% WeatherWool Denim, and it seems we are the only ones offering 100% Wool Denim!  Our Denim transcends the gap between formal and casual.  From work to play, formal to forest, WeatherWool Denim is more than capable.

Designed for the shoulder season but cut with a relaxed fit to comfortably accommodate a heavy wool shirt or sweater underneath to push it into cooler temperatures.

Although Denim and the Chore Coat are new for us, they conform to our original philosophy of Hardcore Luxury ... luxurious garments offering hardcore performance.  The Denim is soft and comfortable against bare skin, but handles weather and work.  And it's tough ... check out this orbital sander test!

The South Shore Chore Coat is offered in Charcoal, Indigo and Natural White (Undyed and Unbleached fiber).

Cody, in the hat, is 5'11" and 165 pounds (180 cm and 75 kg).  JR, in the headscarf, is 6'0" and 165 pounds (183 cm and 75 kg).  Both are wearing Medium.

The South Shore Chore Coat, named for the South Shore of New York's Long Island, where it was developed by Advisor JR Morrissey, is our first offering in our new, 100% Wool Denim Fabric.  JR, in his production shop, wears a Natural White Chore Coat in a photo at left.  Remarkable coincidence ... a guy from Sweden who already has Charcoal and Indigo Chore Coats, asked, via Instagram comment, for a photo of Nat White.  I happened to be online when he posted, so I replied immediately that I'd work on it.  Returning to my email, I was happy to see Anya, Production Manager, had just sent the needed photo!  THANKS ANYA and JR!!!  Keep on truckin!!!!!!

Please click here for a video on the Chore Coat.  The video, about 10 minutes long, was made by, and features, Advisor Cody Bokshowan

There is plenty of background information on the Denim Page, but basically only half of the yarn in denim is typically dyed, and the denim weave creates a fabric with the contrasting face and back that has come to be strongly associated with denim.  Our Natural White Denim is completely undyed, so the face and back are very similar.

The latest information about our production is here.

      Our Fabric

Our 100% American, 100% Wool Fabrics, made from 100% WeatherWool Certified Fine Wool, are the foundation of our company. Making our own Fabric is time-consuming, difficult and expensive. But for us, there is no other way.

      Denim WeatherWool

Denim is a high abrasion—and tear-resistant weave, making it a staple in workwear. Instead of using cotton, we produce our Denim from 100% WeatherWool-certified Wool. You'll find our Denim to be much softer and cozier than traditional cotton denim.

      FAQ

      Where is it made?

All of our products are 100% made in the USA using 100% American-made wool and materials. We pay American citizens to make all of our garments. See more.

      Is WeatherWool in retail stores?

No, it is only available directly through this Website.

What are your garments designed for?

We set out to make the best All-Purpose outerwear possible and we take that "ALL" part seriously. While some items may be better then others for specific needs we like to think we have the perfect garment for anything you do outside regardless if it is in the serving in military, hunting, camping, city, country, work or worship.

      Why is it so expensive?

We never cut a single corner at any step. We make our own fabric, from the best wool in the USA. There are over 45 steps in making our fabric alone. We use the highest quality materials made in the USA. We have owner operated customer service on call to serve you and offer free shipping in USA and Canada as well as hassle free returns.

      Is WeatherWool Merino Wool?

Not exactly. Merino is great wool and has been very well marketed over the years but pure merino alone is not actually suitable for us.

We select our wool based on a number of characteristics including micron, strength, length, and comfort factor. With the help of our advisor Bob Padula we have determined the perfect recipe for our goals. Thanks to modern equipment we can test all the wool before we buy it and that wool is primarily coming from Rambouillet and Targhee breeds.

      How do you clean WeatherWool

Short answer, you almost never need to. It's self cleaning. We've had garments we've worn for 7 years that have never been cleaned other then some rain.

However, things happen. If a lukewarm bath and dry flat doesn't do the trick, you can try wool-cleaner. Our full cleaning page is here.

Can bugs bite through your fabric?

We have not heard of any that can.

What is your customer service policy?

Our customers will be taken care of.

Full Customer Service policy can be found here.

      About us

      Founders / Owners

WeatherWool was founded in 2009 by Ralph and Debby DiMeo. Together with their children and a few friends they maintain 100% ownership of the company. Their full story can be read here.

      Direct Connection To The Source

We make our own Fabric, starting with raw wool carefully and specifically selected from a small group of ranches in the USA that meet our certification standards. This isn't no stock photo. We're actually out there during shearing sampling wool and sharing stoies and good times with the ranchers and their families.

The Best We Can Figure Out

While most companies decide a price point, and reverse engineer a garment to meet that retail price, WeatherWool does the opposite. We make the best garment we can figure out how to make at every decision we face.Although our garments seem pricey to some our profit margins are below average and you're getting more value for your money and assurance that you're getting some of the best wool in the world.

      Best Chore Jacket

This jacket is amazing. It has the same great feel and softness of the mid weight fabric, but with a slightly tighter weave, making it slightly warmer and less breathable, which is ideal for when less active or in windier conditions. Still breathes amazingly well, and regulates the temperature amazingly. The hand warmer pockets are a great addition, as are the standard drop pockets, and also appreciate the addition on buttons on the pockets. Perfect for phone, wallet, keys, pens, etc. For me personally the addition of pockets makes this an ideal everyday garment. The classic denim indigo looks amazing, so deep in color, with the classic contrasting white. Will work in white range of temperatures. Am 6’1 and around 165, and found the medium to be a perfect fit, some room to layer a thicker base layer if needed, and room to move freely without feeling constricted. Sleeve length is also ideal for a chore, as it’s easy to check the time on your wrist and have full freedom of movement for your hands while doing tasks.

Love it. As another reviewer said ... just buy it.

I lurked at this piece for awhile. Then I debated on the color, then the size. Ralph, Debbie and Cody really steered me in the right direction. I am a M in some and a L in others. My Al's Anorak is a M. I chose the L in charcoal. It arrived today. Packed carefully and nicely. I live in Texas, this piece may end up my most used for those damp cool days or working in a cold office but as warm as it is, there is no doubt with layering you can get some work done. I love the pockets and the clean look. The sleeves were a touch long for me on the large, but I am keeping the L.

Now, I have never felt denim this soft on your skin. I tried on with a tshirt and I could wear this with no shirt under (I won't lol) Now the trick is is how to keep my wife from conficating it for herself. I may have to buy her one soon. For sizing, I am 5' 10.5" about 177 pounds this week. I wear a 33x33 jeans and sometimes down a size. I normally wear a 40R in a suit. The L I feel will give me layering room and manuevering room.

      Don't think, buy it.

My wife and I both own one of these chore coats. I am 6' 190lbs and wear a large in indigo. She is 5' 5" and wears a small in white. We wear these virtually every day. They are comfortable indoors and out, with or without a base layer as well. This wool denim is absurdly soft. It can be dressed up or down. This chore coat, aside from being beautiful, is extremely versatile. I don't think this would be my top choice for extreme cold-weather, but I have an all-around jacket for that. For the normal day to day stuff here in MN the chore coat is perfect, I honestly couldn't even think of any ways to improve it. Leaving the jacket open and rolling up the button sleeves it is comfortable up to about 70° F, and layering it over a wool flannel it has been comfortable for me down to about 10° F if I'm active. Really really cool stuff from Weatherwool. Looking forward to hopefully snagging a pair of the denim pants when they return.

Casual, Rugged and Versatile with Class. Peerless customer service.

I've several WeatherWool garments, and if you're reading this I assume you know the pros of wool. The "Shore-Chore" is comfortable and functional, indoors and out. I'm 5'8", 185 lbs., 38" waist. I found the size Large a little snug in the arms reaching for a steering wheel, sized up to an XL, and its perfect for layering and general use. Quality, material, seams, finish, and packaging all exceptional. I'm not a hunter or survivalist -- the most I'm usually outdoors is a 45 minute walk around the neighborhood each day, and with a hat, gloves, and medium weight sweater it's good down to 35 degrees or so. If I'm going to be sitting still watching a football game in drizzling rain, it's time for one of my heavier coats or the Anorak. SERVICE -- when I needed to exchange and size up, I called the number, Ralph picked up, minutes later a return label was in my inbox, a replacement was at my door days later. Ralph treats customers with courtesy, honesty, and respect. "Satisfaction, quickly" would describe the ethos. Is it worth the money and the wait? For me, absolutely. I own a number of inherited vintage coats from a certain company that once advertised "Might as well have the best". I agree. That's why I buy WeatherWool.

      Sharp looking coat

This is a perfect coat for cool weather here in South Carolina, as I tend to stay comfortable as the day warms from mid 40s to low 70s. I received it a couple weeks ago and it has been my daily coat since then. Everything is top notch in the details of construction. The wool is so soft it feels to good to be true. I have a collection of shirts from a well known, mass-produced wool clothing company that I used to think were the pinnacle of how soft wool could be. There is absolutely NO comparison to Weatherwool fabric. Did I mention how good the coat looks? My wife tells me I look 20% smarter wearing it (ha!).
