Sultemeier Ltd Ranch

[Please click here for the main Ranches page.]

In April of 2020, we made our first purchase from the Sultemeier Ltd Ranch of New Mexico. And this is some serious wool ... fully satisfying our standards and blending really well with the rest of Batch 7.

This purchase, 3308 pounds (1500 kg), is 17% of WeatherWool Batch 7 Merino Jacquard Fabric.

The Sultemeier Ranch is operated by Clint and Lee Sultemeier, and has been a Family Ranch for 5 generations. Clint and Lee look forward to the day their 15-year old Grandson can take over.

In speaking with Mrs Sultemeier, I was moved to hear that they had very nearly sold the ranch ... and that it was WeatherWool's purchase of their clip that swayed them to hang on. Clint and Lee are in their 70s, and their children do not wish to be ranchers. Clint and Lee are hoping to keep things going for their Grandson, who is very keen to follow in their footsteps.

As of 2021, I'm sorry to report that the Sultemeiers have had to exit the sheep business. I've been told they sold all their stock. New Mexico has been having a very severe drought, and with the depressed prices for wool and for meat, it was no longer possible for them to hang on given the extra expense of supplemental feed.

Severe struggle is upon many Family Ranches. The Sultemeiers may have been hurt more than our other Ranchers, but not by much.

We wish them all the best in whatever comes next.
