The WeatherWool All-Around Jacket will serve in a huge variety of weather conditions, activities and social settings. Pure WeatherWool Merino Jacquard Wool Fabric and 100% American. Because WeatherWool does not use inner liners, the INSIDE STITCHING of WeatherWool garments is as visible and as slick as the outside. Very few tailors are accustomed to inside stitching that is truly finished.

All-Around Jacket

Description

PLEASE NOTE:  All-Around Jackets in Lynx Pattern are in stock (a few). All-Around Jackets in Drab and Duff Colors are being sewn now, later than I had expected, but I'm pretty sure they will ship in June. Very sorry about how long this has taken. Not sure when we'll finish our Black Fabric because we need to re-dye the Yarn (wasn't Black enough).

We are making sizes XXSmall through 3X.

The AAJ is $850 up to size 2X. Size 3X is $880. If you are interested in a size larger than 3X, please get in touch.

If you've already ordered but we don't have any payment info, you can order again and the website will now accept payment (except for Black). Or you can phone us with payment info and we'll charge your card when we ship your AAJ (we call that SHIP ASAP) unless you tell us otherwise.

We'll be shipping All-Around Jackets as soon as the tailors get them done. Usually the tailors focus on one size or one color at a time. We expect to ship them around the end of May. Lynx Pattern is in stock now.

Black AAJs can be backordered without obligation (price set to 0) from this page.

Latest information about our production is here. Our entire inventory is here

The All-Around Jacket can be worn in almost any outdoor or social setting. Many people go straight from the field to professional meetings.  The AAJ can withstand unlimited snow, huge amounts of sleet and rain, significant wind ... and even a dunking in winter.   It is designed for cool and cold weather, and can be worn in temps as high as 70F/22C (over a light wool base layer or even no base layer at all) or as cold as you like, far below freezing, with the right base layers. Lots of pockets.

  • Constructed of WeatherWool Rambouillet Merino Jacquard FullWeight Fabric, the AAJ will provide a 50 degrees Fahrenheit (28 degrees Celsius) range of comfort without any change of clothing.   Dress for 45F/7C and you are good in 20F/-7C or 70F/21C ... that's basic WeatherWool
  • Double Yoke (second layer of FullWeight Fabric across the top of the chest, shoulders, and top of the back) sheds huge amounts of rain and protects the vitals from cold and wind. As you can see in the pictures, the second layer of wool hangs free from the rest of the AAJ, and it is this separation of layers that enables the jacket to handle so much rain without soaking through
  • Two-way, heavy-duty YKK Vislon front zipper allows any portion of the center front to be opened or closed
  • Storm Flap protecting the front zipper is secured by Slot Buttons. Should the zipper somehow fail, the storm flap enables full front closure. Of course, the storm flap also enhances warmth and keeps snow and ice off the zipper. By hiding the zipper, the storm flap creates a more classic, old-fashioned aesthetic than an exposed double-zip
  • Waist cinch inside the back panel of the jacket. The cinch can seal out updrafts and/or create a waist if desired
  • Front cargo pockets are closed with both zippers and flaps. The flaps are angled to shed rainwater and are secured with three slot buttons (pictured AAJs have two buttons, earlier version)
  • Large, side-entry handwarmer pockets are separate from and underneath the cargo pockets and nothing but pure wool to warm your hands
  • Chest pockets inside the Jacket with zippered closures that can accommodate large mobile phones
  • Large interior pockets, secured by zippers, behind each cargo pocket
  • Cuffs can be adjusted via button-straps with three settings to snug around your wrist if desired
  • Elbows and forearms protected with double thickness of our FullWeight Fabric
  • Serious collar can be flipped up and secured by a throat latch. When not in use, the latch is buttoned into the left cargo pocket or left buttoned to the collar
  • Five Slot Buttons on the back of the collar to attach the Double Hood (sold separately). If you do want the Double Hood, we recommend ordering at the same time as the AAJ to ensure same dye lot. It's definitely not necessary to use all five buttons
  • In size Large, the AAJ weighs 5 lbs, 0.4oz. (228 kg)
  • Available in FullWeight Merino Jacquard Fabric in Solid Colors Black, Drab and Duff, and Lynx Pattern. One of the accompanying pictures shows all the colors.

Most of the photos here show the previous version of the AAJ, which had the front of the jacket centered on the zipper. The front of the Jacket is now centered on the Storm Flap, which protects the zipper. This is really a cosmetic, rather than functional change. Some people felt the jacket looked off-balance previously.

We got an interesting note from someone telling us he was doing film and video with his phone in some nasty weather, and every so often he'd place his wet phone in a handwarmer pocket. After 5 minutes or so, his phone was dry and this worked for the entire 2.5 hours he was in the storm.

The All-Around Jacket is now appearing on History Channel's hit series MOUNTAIN MEN. Josh Kirk, pictured at left, is wearing the very last one we had available prior to the current production run. It's common practice for manufacturers to pay serious money for people in media to drink their beer, wear their logo, etc. Josh got in touch with us simply because he noticed other outdoor professionals in WeatherWool, and he wears the AAJ because he wants to. By the way, Denali, Debby and I visited him at his home in Wyoming, which is pretty amazing, and he is a great guy, very much fun and interesting to spend time with.

The last two photos show the newest All-Around Jackets, made in February and March of 2021, in Lynx Pattern. The last photo shows the AAJ turned inside out, highlighting the placement of the garment tags (to minimize adverse impact in difficult conditions) and even more to highlight the skill and effort of our tailors to achieve finish-level Inside Stitching, which is rare.
