Please Note: We are developing the Women's Blanket Coat and hope to put it into production around September of 2019. Actual pricing for this jacket will be determined as we finalize design and construction. We have made several prototypes of the Blanket Coat and all of them have sold (actually, the same is true for the Women's Bomber and Field Jackets too) ... so we really should put them into production.
The Ladies Blanket Coat is casual but elegant. The Ladies Blanket Coat has a very relaxed feel and a sort of automatic, comfortable fit, but still a refined look. We envision this for the gentler side of outdoor activities. This piece is called a Blanket Coat because of the Blanket stitching along the cuffs, pockets, hood and center front.
If you are interested in the Blanket Coat, you are welcome to contact us personally or place a $0-dollar online order so we know to keep you in the loop as we work.
You can confirm your order or cancel before we cut any Fabric. We estimate the price for those who order prior to actual production will be about $650 and the regular price around $850.
All of the Ladies pieces are being developed by the Women's Design Group, and we seek your input. If you don't know WeatherWool and have not handled our Fabric, please contact us for free Fabric Sample Swatches so you'll understand what we are up to.
We will make the Women's Blanket Coat from our FullWeight Fabric. Shown in the pictures is a prototype in FullWeight Fabric in our Duff Color, with Alpaca-yarn trim. Like everything made by WeatherWool, the Ladies Field Jacket will be a completely pure American product combining unmatched performance with classic looks that work anywhere.
We really like the buttons on this Coat. They are called Corozo Buttons. Our Corozo Buttons are made in USA from a part of the Tagua Nut, which grows in South America. The Tagua Palm is also known as the Ivory Palm, and the scientific name can be translated as “plant elephant”. The Buttons are carved from the endosperm of the seed. (I just looked this up.) The endosperm is the tissue around the germ, which provides starch, protein and oil when the seed starts to grow.
Incidentally, we debated whether WeatherWool, given our strict policy of pure-American, could use Corozo, as the Tagua is from South America. We decided it’s pretty much the same situation as with zippers and thread ... we know these items are made in the USA but we don't know where the raw materials come from.
These buttons are gorgeous and unique ... and super expensive. Over $2 each last time we bought them! But we feel they are very appropriate for the Blanket Coat which itself is intended to embody a mixture of casual functionality and elegant refinement.
These buttons seem very much like wood, but when you handle them, you can tell they are not wood. I don't know of anything else like Corozo.
We would be happy to hear additional ideas.
